Transfer from Calafate, one way, wait and return. Stop at several panoramic points to take pictures.
Stop 20 minutes at the Parador La Leona on the side of Route 40.

Information

  From El Calafate we will start the tour at 07:30 hs. heading to Chalten, passing them to look for the hotel of your stay.
We will coast Lake Argentino up to the junction with National Route No. 40, which we will take north, stopping at two panoramic points in which we can appreciate the magnitude of Lake Argentino and the Andes Mountains with their snowy peaks. Traveling along the legendary route 40, we will have the chance to see wildlife in its wild state, herds of guanacos, choiques, hares, red or gray foxes and a variety of birds.

Continuing towards the north we will find ourselves costing the Vietma Lake from which we will be able to see the Vietma Glacier descending between the mountains towards the lake. We can also appreciate if the climate allows the imposing Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torres. Continuing along route 40 about 30 kilometers, we will take the route 23 along the 90km mountain range. After several stops at panoramic points, we will arrive at the small and picturesque village of El Chalten, located between the mountains. Approximate time 3 hours to arrive.

 

Parador La Leona

At 78 kilometers on route 40; approximately half way we will arrive at the Parador La Leona, an old construction dating from 1894, over the river of the same name, where we will learn about its history. Old country hotel which offered refujio and food to travelers and locals. Parador, faithful witness of the passage of the carts that made the route of the wool course to the city of Rio Gallegos, capital of the province of Santa Cruz.
